Joseph E. Schwartzberg

Joseph E. Schwartzberg, Distinguished International Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota, and Founder and Director Emeritus of The Workable World Trust, has been a life-long peace and justice activist. Since earning his PhD at the University of Wisconsin in 1960, he has taught at the University of Pennsylvania (1960–1964), University of Minnesota (1964–2000), and Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi (1979–1980). He has travelled very extensively, has won numerous rewards for research on the geography and history of South and Southeast Asia (e.g., for his Historical Atlas of South Asia and his editorship of two volumes of The History of Cartography), and was a co-founder of the Kashmir Study Group think tank. He has held numerous positions of leadership in peace and justice organizations at the international, national, and state levels (especially in the World Federalist movement).
